This month we had the chance to revisit some of our modeling. It was less due to market conditions, and more thanks to trying out our new Mining Calculator. What we found was a useful and timely opportunity to take advantage of low prices: Unit Cost.

Locking in a low unit cost on newer ASICs can significantly improve long-term ROI, whether or not they’re correlated to high BTC prices or low difficulty. Studies from the previous cycle, as well as reports looking at recent cycles, have reinforced our own observation that looking for network or hashprice may be less impactful than buying new machines cheap.

While the jump is on a scale not seen in years, the next difficulty adjustment looks to be considerably milder.
